How to apply a new finish to your pre-finished furniture, doors, and cupboards ?

Strip your cabinet doors or wood furniture

The first step in refurbishing your cabinets or wood furniture is to remove the stain, paint and / or varnish that currently covers the surface until you are completely back down to the bare wood.

Use a methylene chloride free stripper without NMP. Chemical strippers are harmful products, especially for people with respiratory problems (ex: asthma). If you are in this situation, always wear a special chemicals filter mask. Wear goggles, gloves and appropriate clothing to prevent splashing on the skin.

Apply a thick layer of product with a brush on your piece of furniture. Leave as is (reaction time) according to the time indicated by the manufacturer.

Scrape with a putty knife, always following the direction of the wood grain.

Rinse thoroughly. If necessary, repeat the operation.

Sand your cabinet doors or wood furniture

The surfaces that have been stripped must then be sanded to eliminate irregularities. You can sand with a fine sandpaper (120-150) to obtain a smooth surface. Always work in the direction of wood grain.

Staining your cabinet doors or your wood furniture

Make sure the surface is clean

Once your cabinet doors or furniture have been properly prepared, that is, stripped and sanded, you can proceed to staining. However, you must first of all make sure that the surface is clean, dry and free of dirt.

Preparing the mixture

Our 40 pre-mixed water based colors can be combined in any desired ratio to create an infinite amount of colors. These recipes are easy to make. You simply have to mix two colors using the proportions indicated on our chart with the help of our graduated container that is included in our 60-003 mixing kit.

Testing the color

The color shown may vary depending on the preparation (sanding) and wood species. We advise you to test in a discreet area before undertaking your entire project.

Applying the stain

You can now apply a stain to the surface of your cabinet doors or furniture. You can use SamaN’s water-based stain, which is designed to get desired color after applying only one coat. Apply the stain using the SamaN sponge included in the 60-002 Staining Kit. It is the most economical method. It is imperative to vigorously stir the stain so that the pigments are evenly dispersed. Pour a small amount of stain onto the sponge included in the SamaN Stain Kit and wipe off any excess with the soft, clean cloth.

Varnishing your cabinets or your wood furniture

Once your cabinets or furniture are stained with the desired color, you must apply a varnish to protect them. It is best to apply two coats of SamaN varnish to seal and protect the wood. SamaN varnishes are available in four types of finishes: matte, satin, semi-gloss and gloss.

Specially formulated to withstand heavy traffic, the superior performance of aluminum oxide nano technology combined with a super-revolutionary finish, exceeds by far the highest standards of wood protection against wear, scuffing, damage and damage caused by UV rays. Ideal for wood floors, furniture, cabinets and moldings.
